Paines Creek Mouth Timeline Graphs
Selection of water quality indicators is controlled by drop-down menu on the upper right. This graph shows the value of each water quality indicator measured for each monitoring event at this location. It offers a preview of possible upward or downward trends over time.
Results are categorized as base flow and stormwater. These stream flow categories are loosely defined. BASE FLOW corresponds to normal or low flow conditions. STORMWATER corresponds to elevated flows following rain or snow melt, as judged by online hydrographs of USGS gauging stations, if available, and/or as judged by volunteers based on their familiarity with the stream and their observation of factors such as stream turbulence and turbidity. Though loosely defined, these two flow categories provide a useful approximation of the impact of runoff on water quality.
Paines Creek Mouth Monthly Average Graphs
Selection of water quality indicators is controlled by drop-down menu on the upper right. This graph shows the monthly average base flow and stormwater concentrations of each water quality indicator since the beginning of the monitoring program.

Description
This sampling location is located roughly 300 yards upstream of the Main St. (Rt. 90) bridge. Look for a deep pool and a nice sandbar upstream of where the sample is collected. Directions: Park across from the Wells College Baseball Field in a small pull-off at the intersection of Poplar Ridge and Rt. 90. From here, walk up a wooded trail approximately 100 yards before making your way south (right) through the woods towards Paines Creek. Brambles and vines can slow the trek, but it provides easier access.
Rationale
Upstream of lake and Aurora sewage treatment plant
